Fireworks Safety Information

Pennsylvania law allows consumer grade fireworks and the City of Altoona provides the following facts and tips:
  • If using fireworks, keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby and wet spent fireworks before disposing in a metal trash can away from combustible materials.
  • Do not give fireworks to children. Simple sparklers burn at 1200 degrees and account for ¼ of emergency room visits.
  • Do not discharge fireworks from or towards a vehicle or building or within 150 feet of a structure.
  • Alcohol and/or drugs do not mix well with those discharging fireworks.
  • If purchasing fireworks, only consumer grade fireworks are allowed to be purchased from properly licensed vendors, inspected by Altoona Fire Inspectors.
While fireworks can be fun and exciting, be smart this July 4th and throughout the summer and practice fireworks safety.

For more detailed information, check out the Fireworks section of the City’s Code of Ordinances.
