Fire Prevention & Fire Safety Inspection Program

Fire Prevention & Fire Safety Inspection Program

The Altoona Fire Department works to provide the citizens of Altoona with the highest level of fire safety possible. A part of this effort is our Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Inspection Program. This program works with businesses through inspections, enforcement, and fire prevention education to provide an environment that reduces the risk of fire related incidents.

A part of the Altoona Fire Department’s fire prevention program is fire safety inspections. The following building types require a fire safety inspection:

  • Assembly
  • Business
  • Educational
  • Factory / Industrial
  • High Hazard
  • Institutional
  • Mercantile
  • Storage
  • Any residential building that contains 3 or more dwelling units

The City of Altoona has adopted the 2018 International Fire Code as its Fire Prevention Code. The Altoona Fire Department utilizes this Code in all fire safety inspections. If you are not sure whether your building is required to have an inspection, or if you have any other questions about inspections, please contact the Fire Inspector’s Office at 814-949-3398
